For some time they have been a common sight on Dutch streets: Bagels & Beans. In March 2008 the branch on the Aert van der Goesstraat was opened.
It all began in the Ferdinand Bolstraat, in Amsterdam. They had the first bagel on their card, a weird bun with a hole in the middle. Still unknown in the Netherlands, but immensely popular in the USA. And what about the Beans? These are Arabica coffee beans, from a small scale family run plantation in Panama. Carl Janson, a son of Swedish immigrants, owns the plantation: The Arabica bean is the best there is, with the least caffeine and the fullest flavour”. At Bagels & Beans they make the best cup of coffee, served with e.g. soy milk or almond milk.
Healthy, sustainable, traditional, personal, lovely -it all appeals to the customers. What does this all imply?: Organic meat, and sustainable caught fish like the wild Sockeye salmon. And of course vegetarian dishes, like the mushroom burger, and vegetarian chicken. Nearly all Bagels are vegan. Have you ever tried an Oathie?. Really nice with oats, apple, linseed, walnuts, blueberries and peach fibres. Any other specialities? What about cheese cake, date tart and a Matcha Latte? No this is not coffee, but green tea with soy milk.
This might sound rather trendy and perhaps pedantic, but it is not meant like that. Bagels& Beans is a Modern business, certainly not subject to trends. They will be the same in another five years, but with new products on the card of course. They are not averse to sweet things. Fancy something Sweet ? Come and have a taste!
