‘Tasty food with an American bite’, this is the slogan of Hudson Bar & Kitchen. In 2009 Marc de Gier and his sister Doina Jonkman de Gier decided to renovate the fancy restaurant Statig on the Aert van der Goesstraat. They created an attractive restaurant with an American reference: Hudson Bar & Kitchen. Alain Reestman became partner. As a host he turned the restaurant in no-time into a favourite spot for locals and expats from the Statenkwartier. The American based dishes, the Hudson burger and the excellent price/quality ratio are much appreciated. Vegetarians are welcome. There is a choice of dishes with meat substitutes from the Vegetarian Butcher e.g Chili sin carne or a vega-burger.
Success is very more-ish: after twee years Hudson opened a restaurant in Naaldwijk. And more followed: in Rotterdam, Noordwijkerhout, Almere, Kijkduin, Zoetermeer and the Hague Centre. This year Hudson will open its 9th and 10th restaurant in Leiden and Voorschoten. Each restaurant has its own character with a dedicated crew.
In the meantime the first branch of Hudson Bar& Kitchen on the Aert van der Goesstraat is the smallest of all the branches. But for the team and the guests this restaurant will remain a special place with an easy going cool atmosphere. In addition the street around them has become more enterprising. The Aert van der Goesstraat has become part of the Fred instead of being an extension, with fantastic caterers, shops and restaurants which all add to the pleasant character of the street.
